Remar on the International Education Day

International Education Day, the NGO Remar believes that education is a human right, a public good and a responsibility, in each of the countries where Remar is, we favor and support the education of girls and boys, women and men who have no access to it.

The General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed January 24 as International Education Day in celebration with the role that education plays in peace and development.

This year 2021, the theme of International Education Day will be: “Reclaiming and revitalizing education for the COVID-19 generation”.

Without an education that’s quality, inclusive and equitable for a lifelong of learning opportunities, there are countries that don’t achieve gender equality or break the cycle of poverty that leaves millions of children, youth and adults behind.

The Convention of Children’s Rights sets out 10 basic rights in which children are entitled to, which must be fulfilled everywhere in the world without exception, including the right to education, the right of every child to receive an education (free, compulsory and primary education), to enjoy a social life and to build there own future.

Today, there are more than 200 million children and young people in the world who are still don’t have access to education, millions of people who cannot read, or solve math’s equations. 4 million refugee children and teenagers are unable to attend school, inequality exists in many parts of the world, where girls and women do not have the same access to education as boys and men.

What programs does the NGO Remar develop in favor of education?

For more than 38 years, Remar has been working to benefit children and teenagers to promote there full development in all areas of life.

Remar has opened schools for primary and secondary education in several countries in Africa and Latin America, such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Peru, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon, among others.

These schools provide quality education to thousands of boys and girls who live in the Remar homes, and to other children from nearby areas and towns who come to study due to limited resources.

Remar contributes to gender equality, because girls and boys have equal access to education, also we provide literacy classes for adults, like women, who did not know how to read and write.

Remar assumes the costs of the implementation and maintenance of the schools, it has hired local teachers and qualified personnel to attend them, in addition to contributing to education it also contributes to improving the local economy by providing jobs.

In many countries, Remar has set up occupational and vocational workshops where young people and teenagers in the homes of Remar can learn a profession and receive training, either formally or informally.

In the refugee camps, the volunteers of Remar also help children to learn how to use their knowledge and skills.

In Spain, specifically in the facilities of our soup kitchens in Madrid, a project called ¨Route for training, insertion and social inclusion in the face of the serious social impact of Covid 19 in the Community of Madrid¨ has been launched and financed. It consists of training for social and labor insertion for people in serious exclusion.

We also have formation in sports with several soccer teams, and a music school.

Every year, Remar prepares and develops activities, championships, camps and retreats for children and young people in so many countries, with the aim that children develop in many areas such as, music, sport, art. Children and young people are given a formation with Christian values, so that tomorrow they will be men and women with formation and values to benefit society.

Many actions and programs developed by the NGO Remar, in favor of education, training and personal development in all areas, physical, mental and spiritual.

We thank God for this great work that we are able to do to benefit many people.
