Every year, on June 20, the world celebrates World Refugee Day.
Refugees are all those who have been forced to flee their country because of conflict, persecution or human rights violations.
This year 2022, the focus will be on the Right to Seek Protection. Remembering this day highlights the right of all people around the world to seek protection, no matter who they are, where they come from, or when they had to flee. Refugees come from different parts of the world.
Remar welcomes and helps refugees, no matter who they are, without judgment, showing the love of Jesus, feeling compassion and mercy for those who suffer. People forced to flee deserve to be treated with dignity. Seeking protection is a human right that is not subject to negotiation.
In Remar, we have been welcoming refugees arriving at the gates of Europe fleeing the war in Syria since 2016.
Remar Greece is currently providing humanitarian aid to refugees who, after arriving on Greek beaches, are stuck in Greek refugee camps, and Remar volunteers provide food, clothing, care and protection in Lesbos and Malakasa to more than 3,200 people a day.
This year, 2022, the attention to Ukrainian refugees who have fled their country because of the war conflict has taken on an important role. Remar SOS started its humanitarian work from the very beginning. We assist Ukrainian refugees in Spain. Italy, Romania, Poland and Ukraine. Teams of volunteers, supplies and containers with humanitarian aid have been sent. Tents have been erected as social dining halls, playgrounds for children and rest areas. Spiritual help, encouragement and hope have been given. Thousands of refugees have been assisted with information, food and a place to rest in different cities in various European countries.
Because refugees are victims of war, because they have fled leaving their homes behind, looking for someone to take them in and give them shelter, Remar volunteers keep their doors open, day and night.
