In the midst of the humanitarian crisis ravaging Haiti, children are at risk of malnutrition, violence and other dangers. REMAR Haiti is working to provide them with shelter, education and food security, giving them the opportunity for a better future.
Haiti, considered the poorest country in Latin America, is currently immersed in a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions, disproportionately affecting Haitian children. With more than 540,000 boys and girls at risk, the situation demands urgent attention.
In Port-au-Prince, a city on the brink of collapse, food insecurity, malnutrition, and violence have forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes. Severe malnutrition impacts 2.1% of children, while 22% of children under 5 years of age suffer from malnutrition. Additionally, some 200,000 people are internally displaced, facing precarious conditions.
Consequences of the Crisis: An Uncertain Future for Children at Risk
The humanitarian crisis has devastating consequences for the population, especially the most vulnerable. Children at risk are exposed to chronic health problems, malnutrition, mental and emotional trauma, child abuse, forced migration, and the risk of attempted suicide.
Other Consequences: Hell for the Most Vulnerable
Shortage of basic services, increase in diseases, sexual violence, danger of housing collapse, rising food prices, insecurity problems, and the destruction of water and sanitation systems are some of the other consequences of this crisis.
The Response of REMAR HAITI
In this hell, REMAR HAITI emerges as a ray of hope. Since 2005, the organization has been caring for, sheltering, clothing, feeding and educating hundreds of abandoned and helpless boys and girls.
A safe haven and a future full of hope
- JESHUA foster home for homeless boys and girls: This is a shelter, home, and protection space for boys and girls, and adolescents in a state of risk and/or social emergency. Household capacity: 45 minors. Some results: more than 300 minors have been cared for at the Home, 150 children have been taught to read and write.
- Charity school for children without resources: In the facilities of the Hogar Jeshúa of Remar Haiti, the School has been established where throughout the year literacy is provided to 150 children and it has been given schooling for 45 children who live in the Home and children who live around the home.
- Food security and attention to basic needs through the dining room, a grain of hope.
- Health care for the community, in addition to partial delivery of food to the most vulnerable in the community.
