Heavy rains have left hundreds of families homeless in São Paulo. REMAR Brazil, through REMAR SOS, is providing humanitarian assistance with food, water and shelter to those most affected.
The NGO REMAR in Brazil has activated the REMAR SOS emergency protocol in response to the heavy rains that have hit the metropolitan region of São Paulo at the beginning of 2025. In a single day, the volume of precipitation exceeded 120 mm, more than expected for the entire month. The most vulnerable communities have been the most affected, suffering flooding, landslides and the destruction of homes.
Devastated Communities and REMAR’s Response
One of the hardest hit areas is near Guarulhos International Airport, where hundreds of families living in informal settlements have lost their homes and belongings. Bridges have been damaged, landslides have blocked roads and many people have been left homeless, in need of urgent assistance.
In the face of this tragedy, the NGO REMAR Brazil has been providing assistance since the start of the rains. REMAR SOS teams have been deployed to hard-to-reach areas to distribute blankets, food, cereals, drinking water and other essential supplies. In addition to material support, volunteers bring hope and solidarity to families who have lost everything.
Constant support to affected families
In this specific community alone, around 350 families have been receiving continuous support for over fifteen days, support that continues to arrive every day from the REMAR SOS volunteer teams. This initiative seeks to provide emergency assistance and contribute to rebuilding the lives of these people.
