REMAR SPORT 2024 brings together children and young people from all over West Africa in a three-day celebration full of sport, friendship and commitment to the development of vulnerable children and youth
From 6 to 8 September 2024, joy and enthusiasm filled the REMAR sports field in the village of Nioko 2, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. In its 16th edition, the annual REMAR SPORT event “Children with Joy” brought together 12 teams of young people aged between 12 and 15, from 12 West African countries where REMAR is present. More than 1,200 spectators attended, who intensely experienced every moment of this sporting event that combines competition, fun and values.
This event is much more than just a football competition. Year after year, children look forward to this special occasion with great joy, a moment that combines sport with coexistence, friendship and camaraderie. Within the framework of this festivity, REMAR promotes values such as fair play, solidarity and sharing, which are fundamental for the growth of the children who live under its protection.
A Sports Festival of Emotion and Unity
During these three days of intense activities, a series of sporting events were held, full of excitement and energy. The opening ceremony and the parade of the competitors marked the beginning of this great sporting festival, where young people, guided by coaches and volunteers, enjoyed healthy competitions, snacks, laughter and many recreational activities.
This year, the competing teams came from the following countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, Liberia, Senegal, Niger, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Mali. Unfortunately, the Cameroon team was unable to attend this time.
The event was attended by the kings of Kossodo & Laye, who joined the celebration and added a special touch to the festivities, reaffirming the impact and importance of REMAR SPORT in the community.
An Event to Remember: Ghana is crowned Champion!
After three days of intense matches full of emotion and passion, the Ghanaian team was crowned champion of this edition of REMAR SPORT. We congratulate the winners and thank all the teams for their participation, demonstrating a great spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship!
The awards ceremony, which took place in a joyful and emotional ceremony, not only handed out medals and trophies, but also left indelible marks in the memory of the children and young people of REMAR. Beyond the sporting achievements, this event was an opportunity to celebrate life, sport and the strong bonds of friendship that are forged on the playing field.
We would also like to highlight the performance of the REMAR Burkina Faso team, which shone by qualifying for the final, sparking joy and enthusiasm among all those present. This event once again underlines REMAR’s commitment to the well-being of children and young people, providing them with a space where they can develop fully, grow in a community and enjoy healthy and enriching competition.
The Impact of Sport and Special Acknowledgements
Sport is a powerful tool in the comprehensive development of young people, teaching essential life lessons. Through teamwork, REMAR children learn the importance of discipline, resilience, respect and self-improvement. These competitions not only foster physical development, but also the emotional and social development of participants, preparing them to face life’s challenges with confidence and responsibility.
We would like to thank God and all the missionaries, volunteers and collaborating companies that have made this celebration possible. Their dedication and effort have allowed children, young people and adults to enjoy a unique experience, full of joy, fun and companionship.
