Students from REMAR’s El Olivo Christian School in Guatemala enjoy an enriching cultural experience by witnessing the play “The Odyssey” at the historic Teatro Abril
A group of high school students from Colegio Cristiano El Olivo of the NGO REMAR in Guatemala had the opportunity to attend the play “La Odisea” at the historic Teatro Abril, as part of the sociocultural activities offered by the educational institution.
This initiative, framed in the April Theater Student season, seeks to bring young people closer to the world of performing arts and provide them with an enriching cultural experience that complements their academic training. For many of these students, this was the first time they had attended a play, which undoubtedly left a profound mark on their personal development.
The importance of theater in the education of young people
Theater is not only a form of entertainment, but also a powerful educational tool that allows young people to develop their imagination, creativity, empathy and communication skills. By watching a play, students are transported to different worlds, eras, and cultures, helping them broaden their perspective and better understand the course of history.
In addition, theater encourages teamwork, discipline and respect for rules. Attending a play involves following certain rules of behavior, such as maintaining silence during the performance and not interrupting other spectators. These basic rules of coexistence are essential for the social development of young people and prepare them to function adequately in different environments.
An approach to Guatemalan history and culture
The visit to the Abril Theater had a special meaning for the students, since this historic venue, founded in 1898 as the Olimpia Hall, is today considered a Center of National Tourist Interest and a Historical Monument. During the visit, the young people had the opportunity to learn about the history of theater and its importance in Guatemalan culture.
The role of teachers and volunteers
The teachers from El Olivo School and the volunteers from the NGO REMAR played a fundamental role in the organization and accompaniment of the young people during this cultural activity. Their dedication and commitment allowed students to enjoy a safe, enriching and memorable experience.
The role of REMAR in the comprehensive training of young people
The REMAR NGO, through the Colegio Cristiano El Olivo, works tirelessly to provide young people who live under its protection with a comprehensive education that includes not only academic development, but also training in values and access to cultural activities that enrich their life.
Attending the play “The Odyssey” at the Teatro Abril is an example of the initiatives that REMAR carries out to promote the comprehensive development of young people, offering them unique opportunities that contribute to their personal and social growth.
This experience has shown that access to education and culture is a fundamental right that opens doors to a world of possibilities. It is hoped that this initiative will inspire new generations to value art, history and knowledge as basic pillars for their personal and social development.
32 years transforming lives through education in Guatemala
The NGO REMAR, with more than three decades of experience in Guatemala, has made education a fundamental pillar of its social work. Through Colegio Cristiano El Olivo, REMAR has given hundreds of Guatemalan young people, especially those at risk or from low-income families, the opportunity to access quality education and build a hopeful future.
A legacy of comprehensive education
Since its inception, Colegio Cristiano El Olivo has opened its doors to children and young people from diverse backgrounds, offering them comprehensive training that goes beyond academics. In its classrooms, students not only acquire knowledge, but also develop Christian values, life skills, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Call to action
The work of REMAR and Colegio Cristiano El Olivo is possible thanks to the work of volunteers and missionaries who work hard on behalf of the most vulnerable children and youth.
