Humanitarian crisis forces REMAR to evacuate children from their home in Port-au-Prince and transfer them to a safe place on the Haitian border
“Truly I say to you, just as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40
Representatives of the NGO REMAR España, José Jesús García Porcel and his wife Rebeca Díez, along with a team of REMAR volunteer missionaries in the Dominican Republic, have made a crucial trip to the border with the Republic of Haiti in the town of Elías Piña. The main mission is to evaluate the emergency situation in the neighboring country and coordinate the urgent transfer of the children from the REMAR Home in Port-au-Prince to a safer place.
Critical situation in Haiti
Haiti is under the control of armed gangs, especially in Port-au-Prince, where the REMAR Home is located. The area where the community of children resides is completely blocked by these gangs, making it difficult to access food and other basic needs. The safety of children with this situation is complicated, which has prompted the need for urgent action.
Action plan: transfer and new home on the Haiti border
The main objective is to evacuate the REMAR Haiti children from the city of Port-au-Prince as quickly as possible. It is planned to open an immediate shelter house for their protection on the border of Haiti and another house on the border of the Dominican Republic to provide and send help from there. A plan will be established for the transfer of the children, through friendly people and an agreement with armed gangs, to guarantee the safety of the children during the journey to the border.
Collaboration for the protection of children
This initiative is carried out in coordination with CONANI (National Council for Children and Adolescents) and the Chosen Family Foundation of the Dominican Republic. The joint work of REMAR and CONANI is essential for the well-being of Haitian children. Many of them cross the border fleeing the crisis in their country, leaving them adrift on the streets of the Dominican Republic without food, family or protection.
A new home, a new hope
The new home that the NGO REMAR plans to open on the border will provide children with a safe space where its volunteers can care for them, serve them and guarantee their education. This action will allow them to escape the insecurity and danger that they experience daily in Port-au-Prince.
REMAR’s work through its volunteers will be to offer a home and the opportunity to have a dignified life in the midst of the chaos that plagues their nation.
A call to prayer
“We ask for your prayers so that God can open the way for us and bring the children from the REMAR Home in Port-au-Prince to the border, where they will be safer and receive the attention of the team of REMAR volunteers in that area,” commented Oscar García, missionary. and REMAR volunteer in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
From here we call for prayer for this very complicated situation, but at the same time it will bring new hope and a new beginning for many Haitian children.
