International Volunteer Day: A Silent Army of Love and Solidarity

International Volunteer Day celebrates the selfless dedication of millions of people who work for a better world. At REMAR, we highlight the work of our volunteers, who have delivered humanitarian aid to five continents for more than 40 years. Their daily commitment transforms lives and generates hope in the most needy communities.

International Volunteer Day: A Recognition of Love in Action

Every December 5th, the world celebrates International Volunteer Day, a date proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 to honour the altruistic work of millions of people who dedicate their time and effort to the well-being of their communities. This day is not only a recognition, but also a call to encourage participation in volunteering, highlighting its key role in promoting sustainable development, peace and solidarity in the world.

Volunteering at REMAR: More than Four Decades of Impact

At REMAR, volunteering has been the fundamental pillar that has allowed us to expand our work to five continents for more than 40 years. Since its inception, thousands of people have responded to the call to serve the most vulnerable, bringing hope and love where it is most needed. This commitment is not limited to times of crisis; it is a constant work that ranges from emergency care to daily support in foster homes, soup kitchens and rehabilitation programs.

In recent years, the role of volunteers in REMAR has become more relevant in the face of global crises such as the war in Ukraine or natural disasters such as the DANA in Valencia. In the face of these challenges, solidarity has become a driving force for change, with volunteers responding quickly, bravely and with dedication.

But beyond emergencies, their work is a long-term commitment. Every day, men, women and young people work in silence, transforming lives with simple but powerful gestures, reminding us that love and compassion are essential tools for building a better world.

Volunteers Transforming Lives

What makes REMAR volunteers unique is that many of them have been beneficiaries of the organization’s help. People who once received support have now become agents of change, dedicating their strength to helping others. With love and effort, they care for children at risk, feed those who have nothing to eat, and offer companionship to the sick and elderly. They also work in prisons, helping to transform lives from the inside.

This silent army of volunteers does not seek recognition; their motivation is rooted in the love of God and the loving service to their neighbor. However, their work is indispensable. Thanks to them, REMAR can maintain foster homes, soup kitchens, refugee camps and rehabilitation centers, bringing hope to more than 70 countries.

REMAR Youth: Strength and Passion at the Service of the Most Vulnerable

The youth in REMAR are synonymous with energy, enthusiasm and dedication. Young people in many countries around the world dedicate their strength, their will to live and their time to bring hope and help to those in need.   Through their work as volunteers, they positively impact the lives of thousands of people. These young people not only give their physical effort, but also their heart, demonstrating that true strength lies in serving with love and compassion.

Just as Scripture says, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). Inspired by this call, REMAR youth live with purpose, being a light in the midst of darkness for those facing the toughest adversities.

A Thank You and a Call

On this International Volunteer Day, we at REMAR would like to express our gratitude to each of our volunteers. We know that their reward comes from God, who values every effort and sacrifice in favor of the smallest and most vulnerable. Our prayer is that more people will join this noble work, because together we can reach more people in need and bring hope to every corner of the world.

HAPPY VOLUNTEER DAY GOD BLESS YOU!
