Every December 1st, REMAR renews its mission in the fight against HIV/AIDS, providing comprehensive support to those facing this disease. Discover how, through campaigns and programs, REMAR offers hope and a dignified life to people in vulnerable situations in various countries.
Every December 1, the world comes together to commemorate World AIDS Day, a day established in 1988 to raise awareness of the disease, promote medical advances and strengthen global efforts to eradicate it. Despite progress, HIV/AIDS continues to affect millions, especially in the poorest countries, where a lack of resources exacerbates its devastating impact.
REMAR: A Bridge of Hope for People with HIV
Since the first years of the epidemic, the NGO REMAR has been present, providing support and comprehensive care to those facing this disease. Initially, when the HIV diagnosis was synonymous with hopelessness, REMAR offered a refuge for those who had nowhere else to turn. Over time, and thanks to God and medical advances, many people have been able to live a dignified life, free from discrimination and with access to treatment.
People living with HIV face multiple challenges, from social stigma and discrimination to lack of access to adequate medical treatment, especially in countries where resources are limited and antiretroviral drugs are expensive and difficult to obtain.
In response to this reality, REMAR has been a bridge of help, offering comprehensive support to those who need it most. Through awareness campaigns and specific programs, REMAR works in several countries to provide support, shelter and access to essential treatments. Thanks to these initiatives, many people have managed to overcome barriers and live with dignity, hope and better access to the medical care necessary to confront this disease.
SANISI Homes: A Refuge for the Little Ones
In 2005, REMAR opened the SANISI (Saving Children with AIDS) Home in the Dominican Republic, a project aimed at rescuing children directly or indirectly affected by HIV/AIDS. Many of these children, from families in extreme poverty and vulnerable contexts, arrived at the home after having suffered abandonment, discrimination and lack of access to the most basic things: food, health and education.
For nearly two decades, SANISI Homes have transformed the lives of hundreds of children, providing them not only with the necessary antiretroviral medication, but also an environment where they can grow up healthy, study, play and plan a future full of hope. Some of these children, who arrived in critical conditions, are now young people who have fully integrated into society, with dreams and goals that they pursue with determination.
