Travel to Santo Domingo and the border with Haiti to strengthen collaboration and expand support for the most vulnerable
Representatives of REMAR Spain, José Jesús García Porcel and his wife Rebeca Díez, have made a trip to the Dominican Republic and the border with Haiti, with the aim of strengthening the work that the NGO REMAR has been carrying out in the country for 25 years and expanding its support for the most vulnerable children and youth.
A trip full of activities
The activities developed during the trip have been diverse, in order to learn first-hand the reality of the children and young people served by REMAR, as well as explore new avenues of collaboration to improve their quality of life.
- Visits to REMAR homes: They have visited the foster homes for children and young people in situations of risk or vulnerability, where they have been able to share time with love and joy with them, enjoy their company and learn about their needs.
- Special attention to Haiti: One of the most important points of the trip was the visit to the border with Haiti, where REMAR has been working since 2005 providing humanitarian assistance in the midst of the crisis facing the country. Given the difficult emergency situation that Haiti is experiencing, immediate actions have been taken to transfer the REMAR Children’s Home in Port-au-Prince to a safe place on the border. This initiative is carried out in coordination with CONANI (National Council for Children and Adolescents) and the Chosen Family Foundation of the Dominican Republic. The joint work of REMAR and CONANI is essential for the well-being of Haitian children.
- Establish strategic alliances with the Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (CODUE). The union between the NGO REMAR in the Dominican Republic and CODUE will provide significant support to the work that REMAR carries out for the benefit of dozens of Dominican children. REMAR will also participate in various activities organized by CODUE to publicize its work in the community, promoting support and improvement of the living conditions of children living under its protection in Santo Domingo.
- Strengthening collaboration: They have also visited the House of Prayer Church in Santo Domingo, where they have made known the work that REMAR does in favor of Dominican children and youth, opening new doors of support and solidarity. They have also shared a special time with friends and collaborators of REMAR in that city.
This trip has served to reaffirm REMAR Spain’s commitment to the children and youth of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. New lines of collaboration have been established to expand support for the programs and projects that REMAR develops in both countries, with special attention to the protection of the most vulnerable children and young people.
A message of hope
At the conclusion of their trip, the representatives of REMAR Spain have expressed their deep gratitude for the warm welcome received and have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the most vulnerable children and youth in the region. “The greatest joy we can have in this life is to participate in the ministry of Jesus, in his mercy, in his love. Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. Therefore, what a great delight it is to serve the Lord and his least ones. Let us not get tired of doing much good. We pray for this mission in this country that God will raise up workers and extend this store of compassion for those most in need. May God bless you ,” they expressed.
