In an effort to improve health services in the western region of Libya, Mr. Mustafa Ahmed Salem, representative of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, held a meeting at his office in Tripoli with representatives of the NGO REMAR. During the meeting, details of a project for the construction of a health centre facility in the municipality of Nalut, near the border with Tunisia, were discussed.
Presence of representatives of the Libyan government and the NGO REMAR
The meeting was attended by Daniel Diez, REMAR representative in Spain, and Juan Carlos Galvez, emergency coordinator and relief representative of the organization in Eastern Europe and North Africa, who discussed the procedures and initial agreements necessary to begin the implementation of the project. Among the topics discussed was the planning of a visit to the municipality of Nalut to carry out preliminary assessments of the area, identify basic needs and plan the necessary equipment, in accordance with the provisions of the agreement between both parties.
The meeting was also attended by important figures from the local and governmental spheres, such as the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Local Administration, Mr. Nasr Al-Mahtout, and the official of the International Cooperation Administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Sawaid. Representatives of the International Cooperation and Organizing Affairs Office were also present to ensure the necessary coordination between the entities involved.
Facilities offered by the government for the implementation of the project
Mr. Mustafa Ahmed Salem, in his welcome speech, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to provide all necessary support to the REMAR team to ensure the success of this important project. “The Ministry will provide all necessary facilities and fully support the implementation of this health center, an essential service for the citizens of the Western Mountains,” the official stressed.
REMAR’s commitment to local needs
For his part, Juan Carlos Galvez expressed his gratitude for the Ministry’s efforts to facilitate the launch of the project. “REMAR is committed to local needs and priorities, and we will work hand in hand with the authorities to ensure that each phase of this project is developed in accordance with the expectations of the local government,” he stressed.

The medical centre, which will be located in a university building provided by the local government of Nalut for a period of 25 years, will have specialized services for women’s care, such as a delivery room and a pediatric unit. This project has the potential to significantly improve access to medical services in the region, providing quality care to a population that has historically lacked adequate health infrastructure.
The collaboration between REMAR and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs marks an important step towards strengthening relations between international organisations and local authorities in Libya, promoting vital projects for the well-being of communities.
