A REMAR Burkina delegation received by the Minister of Justice to strengthen the rehabilitation of children and people at risk. REMAR, with a presence in the country for more than three decades, reaffirms its commitment to Burkinabe society
Recently, a delegation from the NGO REMAR Burkina was received by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Mr. Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, who is also in charge of Institutional Relations and the Seal Guard (MJDHRI_GS). Led by René Ouedraogo, representative of REMAR Burkina and Paulo Oliveira, the delegation held an important meeting with the minister to discuss the signing of a sectoral convention between both entities.
The meeting sought to establish a coordination of actions to strengthen the rehabilitation and social reintegration of children in conflict with the law, orphans and other people in vulnerable situations. Minister Bayala praised the initiative and expressed his commitment to work with REMAR to achieve its objectives, assuring the full willingness of his team to support this effort.
REMAR Burkina: 30 Years of Service to the Most Vulnerable
REMAR Burkina has been present in the country since 1994, starting in the capital, Ouagadougou. Over the years, the organisation has expanded its presence in northern towns such as Ouahigouya and Tougan, as well as in the south in Bobo Dioulasso, responding to the growing demand for accommodation for vulnerable people.
A Lasting Impact in Burkina Faso
Since its founding, REMAR Burkina has welcomed thousands of people into its homes, including babies, children, women and men of all ages, many of them facing critical situations such as extreme poverty, abandonment and addiction. This work has had a significant impact both on the population and on the Government of Burkina Faso. In recognition of its work, REMAR has been awarded the National Order of Merit, presented directly by the President of the Republic.
REMAR Burkina is present in several localities and has farms for cultivation, foster homes, primary schools, and rehabilitation centres for men with addictions. In addition, the NGO has developed charity shops and training centres for young people, where workshops are given in sewing, carpentry, welding, mechanics, soap making, agriculture, livestock breeding and a mechanic’s garage.
Among its new projects, a solar-powered bakery and pastry shop, and a fruit and vegetable drying unit are already up and running, with the aim of generating more opportunities for at-risk youth.
REMAR and its Commitment to Collaboration with the Government
The recent meeting underlines REMAR Burkina’s willingness to continue to collaborate with the Government in the implementation of programmes that promote the social reintegration of the most vulnerable. The agreement discussed with the Minister of Justice and Human Rights has the potential to further strengthen the work of the NGO, allowing its projects to continue to benefit thousands of people who, without REMAR’s support, would be at risk of exclusion. REMAR Burkina, with three decades of service, remains a fundamental pillar in the fight for the dignity and well-being of marginalized people.
